Thanksgiving

It is so easy for people to get swept away at this time of year with the hustle and bustle, obligations, and routines, that they forget to stop and look around.

While we were driving home from an early Thanksgiving dinner tonight with our extended family and dear friends, two extraordinary things happened.

First, Melody and I both saw a shooting star and stopped to acknowledge how fortunate we are. A moment later we saw a white-tailed deer grazing in the dark, and when she noticed us, I truly understood the phrase “deer in the headlights.” She was being fed by the abundance the universe provides, and I felt grateful.

Grateful to have a loving family, an abundance of friends, good health, work that I love. Grateful to have a home on the island, and a peaceful space in which to rest. Grateful for a spiritual connection that does not waiver, and a gift for expression that I cherish.

Yes, I’m grateful for stuff, too, but it’s the little things like seeing a shooting star that make this Life amazing to me. For what are you grateful?

I am grateful for so many things that it’s really hard to know where to begin. My family and friends are certainly at the top of my list but the little things seem to be the sweetest, like the laughter of a child and the smell of fresh cut grass. I’m always enriched by the smile of stranger as we pass on another, the sight of a father embracing their child [egardless of age] and not caring who sees them. I’m grateful for the sound of a rain storm along my ability to hear and see it. I’m grateful for a gentle breeze on my face and my awareness to feel it.

One of the miracles that I have an opportunity to see is the smile of my children and granchildren’s faces. I have come to appreciate the fact that our lives can change in the blink of an eye and each smile I see is a true gift.

I am grateful for a husband who loves me inspite of myself and allows me to be who I am. This amazing person that I share my life with who is truely my partner and best friend.

I’m blessed with amazing friends who each add to my life in their own way. I am thankful for my journey because it has helped form the person I have become.

Thank you Janet for the opportunity to know you and call you friend. Have a wonderful holiday season.

You’re story kit me especially hard this year. You see, I am in Spain right now where there is no celebration of Thanksgiving. I will be missing Thanksgiving this year, but I will not miss the giving of thanks.
You see I am here because even though I have no biological children I am allowed to share my husband’s children and grandchildren. I came here a week ago to experience a critical birth for both mother & child. When faced with such such a crisis one’s mind tries not to be positive, but it is only natural to prepare for the worst situation.
I’m so grateful because once again I am a grandmother (abuella) & my beautiful daughter( hiya) is recooperating from her, c-section and then life-threatening surgery.
Although it will still be a long road to recovery and the baby won’t be able to come home for a long time, we are all in awe of our good fortune. This is truely a miraclulous 2 pound baby boy.
So, have some turkey for me. I will be saying my Thanksgiving prayer over Spanish tortillas and though I won’t be home in body my spirit will be singing!

    In Thanksgiving reflection,
    I am thankful
for home surroundings that comfort me,
for work opportunities that challenge me,
for friends and family who share my journey, and
for a faith that strengthens me and encourages me to grow.
